Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies

Description: These will be one of your favorites after you try them.

Chef's Comments:
Note: Dough can be shaped by tablespoonfuls into balls, then flattened on baking sheet with greased bottom of glass dipped in sugar.
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 2/3 cups all-purpose flour*
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup dairy sour cream sugar
If using self-rising flour, omit baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Preparation:
1. Heat oven to 425-degrees.

2. Mix 1 cup sugar, the shortening, butter, egg, and vanilla.

3. Stir in remaining ingredients except sugar.

4. Divide dough into 3 parts. Roll each part 1/4 inch thick in lightly floured clothcovered board. Cut with 2-inch cookie cutter; sprinkle with sugar.

5. Place on ungreased baking sheet.

6. Bake until almost no imprint remains when touched lightly in center, 6 to 8 minutes.
