6 slices of white bread, trimmed (or enough to cover bottom of pan) 2 pounds of bulk sausage (mild or hot) 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 6 ounces of sliced Swiss cheese 3 eggs, slightly beaten 1 1/4 cups Half and Half 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1. Layer bottom of 9x13 pan with bread slices.
2. Brown and thoroughly drain sausage.
3. Mix sausage and mustard. Spoon over bread.
4. Layer cheese slices over sausage.
5. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over casserole.
6. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
7. Remove from refrigerator; let warm to room temperature.
8. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes on middle rack of oven at 350
degrees.
This casserole is ideal for special occasions, when you would rather not work over preparing breakfast in the morning but you still need something good.
Serve with mixed fruit, croissants, juice, and coffee.
