Ingredients:
1/2 pound bacon, diced
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 medium onion, minced
1 1/2 pounds navy beans, picked over, rinsed, and soaked
overnight in water to cover
1 gallon water
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups ketchup
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
Preparation:
1. Saute bacon in large pot until browned; add onion and cook until browned, about 4 minutes.

2. Add water, molasses, brown sugar, and mustard; bring to a boil.

3. Drain beans and add to pot. Return to boiling, then reduce heat to a slow simmer.

4. Cook 4 to 5 hours until beans are soft, adding water as necessary. Season with salt and pepper.
