frozen pastry for 9-inch one-crust pie 1 1/2 cups sugar 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 12 cups pared and thinly sliced apples (about 12 medium) 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1. Heat oven to 425 degrees F.
2. Prepare pastry; roll into 10-inch square. Fold in half;
cut slits near center.
3. Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt; toss with
apples.
4. Turn into greased square pan, 9x9x2-inches.
5. Dot with butter.
6. Cover with crust that has slits cut in it; fold edges
under just inside edges of pan.
7. Bake until juice begins to bubble through slits in crust, about 1 hour.
8. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
