Cake: 2 cups sugar 2 cups plain flour 1 cup vegetable shortening 1 stick margarine 1 cup water 4 level tablespoons cocoa 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 eggs, slightly beaten 1/2 cup buttermilk 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla flavoring Icing: 1 stick margarine 4 level tablespoons cocoa 1/2 cup milk 1 1-pound box confectioners sugar 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla flavoring 1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
1. Mix sugar and flour in bowl.
2. Combine shortening, water, margarine, and cocoa
and bring to boil on stovetop or microwave.
Combine with flour and sugar mix.
3. Stir in baking soda, followed by eggs,
buttermilk, and vanilla flavoring.
4. Bake in greased and floured 9x13 pan for
approximately 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
5. A few minutes before cake is done, prepare
icing. Bring to boil margarine, cocoa, and
milk. Remove from heat and add confectioners
sugar, and vanilla. Then stir in nuts. Pour
over hot cake.
5. Remove cake from oven; pour icing over hot
cake.
