1/2 lb. butter 1/2 cup Crisco 1 lb. box light brown sugar 1 cup granulated sugar 5 large eggs 1 cup chopped nuts 3 cups plain flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup evaporated milk 1 Tbs. vanilla
1. Cream butter, shortening and sugars. Add eggs and beat.
2. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
3. Bake at 325-degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Icing:
1 1/2 sticks margarine
2/3 cups evaporated milk
1 lb. box brown sugar
1. Bring all ingredients to a full rolling boil for 3 minutes, stirring all the time.
2. Remove from heat and beat on medium speed for about 20 minutes.
3. Spread on cool cake.
