Ingredients:
2 packages yeast
1/2 cup warm water
6 tablespoons sugar
6 cups self-rising flour
1 cup vegetable shortening
2 cups milk*
If buttermilk is used, add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda for each cup of milk.
Preparation:
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water; add sugar and stir to dissolve.

2. Sift flour into large bowl

3. Cut shortening into flour.

4. Add milk. Work into flour until consistency of biscuit dough. Add more flour if needed.

5. Cover and place in refrigerator until chilled. (This dough will last for 3 or 4 days.)

6. Take out amount needed for each baking and shape into rolls, or roll out and cut as biscuits.

7. Let rise (1/2 to 1 hour) and bake in 350 degree oven until brown and done in center.
